What I build and How I Work

I take on projects where practical software, data analysis, or training can make a real difference — and I see them through.

Software Development

Software Development

I build custom software for organizations that have outgrown spreadsheets and generic tools. My work ranges from standalone applications to integrations with existing systems — including modernizing legacy MS-Access databases that still run critical operations.

  • Web applications and internal tools
  • Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate)
  • Database design and integration
  • Automation of manual, repetitive processes
  • System integrations and data pipelines
  • Social services and case management software
  • State and regulatory reporting systems
  • Microsoft MS-Access — support, modification, and migration

Microsoft Access Expertise

MS-Access may not be the platform of choice for new projects, but there are still a lot of legacy systems out there running critical operations. I support and modify existing MS-Access databases, and I help organizations migrate them to modern platforms — PowerApps, SQL Server, or web-based systems — when they're ready to make the move.

Featured projectLocal Government

Recycle Center Management System

A comprehensive system to manage day-to-day operations at a municipal recycle center. The project replaced a manual, paper-based intake process with a digital system that gives staff real-time visibility into what's coming in and who's bringing it.

Driver's License Scanning

A PowerApp at the intake station scans driver's licenses to quickly and accurately identify visitors, eliminating manual data entry and reducing errors.

Waste Item Tracking

Staff log the type and quantity of waste materials each visitor brings in. The system categorizes items and accumulates data over time for reporting and compliance.

Operational Reporting

Dashboards give center management a clear picture of daily volume, material types, and visitor patterns — supporting both operational decisions and regulatory reporting.

Social services softwareNonprofits & Educational Institutions

Social Services Software Systems

Custom software built for organizations that serve people — where the right tool can directly improve how staff work and how clients are supported. These systems are designed around the specific workflows and reporting requirements of social service providers and educational institutions.

Accommodation Letter Systems

Software for disability services offices at educational institutions to manage, generate, and track accommodation letters — replacing manual processes with a consistent, auditable workflow.

Scheduling & Case Notes

Custom scheduling systems that integrate case note creation directly into the appointment workflow, ensuring state reporting requirements are met without adding burden to frontline staff.

Data Systems for Service Organizations

Reporting and data management systems for organizations like vision loss service providers — built to support both program delivery and the data requirements of funders and regulators.

Data Analytics

Data Analytics

I help organizations understand what their data is telling them. Whether it's preparing data for a grant report or building dashboards for leadership, I focus on analysis that leads to clear, usable answers.

  • Data cleaning, preparation, and validation
  • Reporting dashboards and visualizations
  • Grant reporting data preparation
  • Program outcome and impact analysis
  • Trend analysis and stakeholder presentations

Homeless Shelter — Ongoing Data Analysis

Large Nonprofit

I work as an embedded data analyst for a large homeless shelter, helping leadership understand service utilization, client outcomes, and program effectiveness. The work supports both day-to-day decisions and external grant reporting requirements.

  • Service utilization and capacity reporting
  • Client outcome tracking and trend analysis
  • Grant reporting data preparation and visualization

Social Services Analytics

Nonprofits & Service Organizations

Ongoing and project-based analytics work for organizations serving vulnerable populations — including vision loss service providers and other nonprofits. Work focuses on turning program data into clear evidence of impact for leadership, boards, and funders.

  • Program impact measurement and reporting
  • Data cleaning and preparation for analysis
  • Visualizations for board and stakeholder presentations
  • Funder and grant reporting support
Training & Course Development

Training & Course Development

I've developed and taught computer courses for community colleges and adult education programs for years. My courses are built from the ground up to be practical and accessible — whether someone is opening Excel for the first time or learning to design a relational database.

Good training meets people where they are. I don't use canned curricula — every course I teach is something I built myself, which means I know it inside and out and can adapt it to the room.

  • Curriculum development for community colleges and adult education
  • On-site and remote instruction
  • Custom course design for organizational training needs
  • Individual and small-group coaching
Beginner

Introduction to Excel

A complete 6-hour introductory course (three 2-hour sessions) built from scratch. Designed for people with little or no spreadsheet experience, it covers everything needed to work confidently in Excel on the job.

  • Navigating the Excel interface
  • Entering and formatting data
  • Writing basic formulas and functions
  • Sorting, filtering, and organizing data
  • Creating simple charts and reports
All levels

SQL — Beginner through Advanced

A full progression of SQL courses covering everything from writing your first SELECT statement to complex joins, subqueries, window functions, and query optimization.

  • Intro SQL: SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY, basic joins
  • Intermediate SQL: aggregation, subqueries, multi-table queries
  • Advanced SQL: window functions, CTEs, performance tuning
  • Hands-on exercises with real datasets
Intermediate / Advanced

Database Design Theory and Development

A technical course covering the principles and practice of relational database design — from conceptual modeling through physical implementation.

  • Entity-relationship modeling
  • Normalization (1NF through BCNF)
  • Primary and foreign keys, referential integrity
  • Translating business requirements into schema
  • Indexing and performance considerations
